SMS QR Code Generator
Create a QR code that opens a text message with your number and text already written.
Optional.
Rounded keeps adjacent modules joined; dots separates them.
Applies to the three locator squares. Their proportions stay exact.
Blank margin around the code. The spec requires 4 — lower it and scanners start to struggle.
Applies to PNG and WebP downloads.
Processed in your browser. The image is never uploaded.
Placed in the centre. Your image stays on this device.

What is a sms?
An SMS QR code opens the messaging app with the recipient and body prepared. It is common for competition entries, short codes and opt-in campaigns, where the wording of the message matters and a typo means the entry fails.
We use the SMSTO format. The newer sms: URI is better specified but less consistently honoured from a QR code, and a message that silently arrives empty is worse than a slightly dated format that works.
Does this QR code expire?
No. This code is static: the data is written directly into the pattern, not stored on our servers. There is no link back to us that could break, no subscription that could lapse, and nothing we could switch off. Print it once and it keeps working — including after this website is gone.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it send the message automatically?
- No. The message opens ready to send but the person taps send themselves. No scanner will send a text without confirmation, and one that did would be a serious security problem.
- Can I use a short code?
- Yes. Short codes work the same way as full numbers.
- Will the person be charged?
- Standard message rates apply, exactly as if they typed the text themselves. If you are running a campaign on a premium number, say so next to the code.
